Where goldfish dare.

Where goldfish dare.

This wasn’t the photo I originally wanted to accompany this blog. I was hoping for a screenshot from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, but everything I found was either too small or too blurry to be of any use. It’s probably just as well, as this photo works better.

There’s a familiar adage, an old saying, an oft-clichéd phraseology that goes something like this: “Yeah right, when salmon fly!”

Not King Jimmy's bible.

Not King Jimmy's bible.

Since this is the last time I get to talk before Awana’s over, I really want to use this time to tell you guys some of the things that are on my heart, and encourage you to pursue the one thing in life that matters the most—seeking and following after God.

Now, if you’ll allow me to lecture for a bit, I’ll begin. For starters, I’m a bit of a slow learner regarding important life lessons. I had a quote running through my head from Joe Versus the Volcano, so I googled “luggage.” After looking through a few pages of results, I happened upon this wonderful gem—instantly I had a connection! In one of the earliest sessions of Men’s Fraternity, we dealt with the concept of unpacking. That is, examining areas of your life where you’ve haphazardly compartmentalized emotions or memories, ultimately resulting in issues by the handful.

So pretty...

So pretty...

Lately, I’ve been looking for hope it all the wrong places. It’s foolishness, I know, but that hasn’t stopped me from trying. It seems like an inevitable, inescapable cycle: I seek my own will, fail miserably, and then cry out to God when I get stuck. When will I ever learn to simply trust in Him alone?

In matters I prefer to reference only vaguely, it’s been my unspoken modus operandi to act first and ask questions (of God) later. Somehow, I think I know myself better than God. Oh, I say, you can’t be serious! You don’t realize what you’re asking of me. I’m so messed up I could never be used effectively for Your kingdom, much less hope to find fulfillment in love, life, and the universe.
